Period Coach
Hi! My name is Sam and I am a Period Coach and I want to talk to you about periods!
Since the COVID -19 Pandemic we have set out on a mission to contribute in ending period poverty across our wonderful county, East Lancashire. A significant number of girls are giving up sports because of their periods, whether that is embarrassment, unable to access products or purely through lack of knowledge.
It became apparent very quickly that this issue is huge across the whole of East Lancashire and in fact the country which 1 in 3 young people now unable to gain access to the knowledge and products they desperately need.
During Lockdown we set up “The Female Health and Hygiene Project” and we have donated over 17,000 period pamper packs in to our communities. These packs contain everything you need for your period: Tampax, Pads, Soap, Shampoo, face masks, hair masks, body sprays, and lots more pamper products. This project was funding by public donations, National Lottery and LDS Charities who all in turn massively support the work that we are doing and the goals we are trying to achieve.
Our next goals are to educate young people on how they can facilitate their periods whilst participating in sport together with teaching them what periods are and what products and support services are available to them. There is also still a need to help people who are not of school age but can not gain access to products because of financial constraints.
In June 2021 we launched a sustainable route to helping the East Lancashire communities as well as educating young people in schools on periods and body image. This project re-model is called “The Period Coach” We are hitting the school scene with our big knickers and sanitary towels and educating our amazing county on how awesome their bodies can be during their periods and what products to use to help them have the confidence to go out and do their day to day living!
